Giovanni Mazziotta, also known as AnniMa, is a Brazilian musician, singer, bass player, composer and producer from Nitéroi in Rio de Janeiro, now living in Prague. He inherited Italian roots from his father and love for music from his mother. He started playing bass at the age of 16, influenced by his cousin Sérgio. Two years later he started his career as the front man, singer and bass-player of the band A Theia which played in bars, clubs, universities and festivals of his home city. AnniMa has participated in many projects by Brazilian musicians of the new generation. He recorded a song “O pé de cajá” by Arnaldo Lazuli for album Movimento Pop Goiaba. He took part in recording another album, Hey, rapaz (2002), by compositor Claudio Salles and an instrumental album called Cassiotronic (2004) by Cassio Essir. On collaboration with Johanne Russell he recorded an album of his own songs Verso de bamba (2006). In 2006, he took part in recordings in Emiliano Sette’s studio Garimpo. With Mihay Freire he performed in Europe, in 2012 in Amsterdam and in 2014 in Paris. In Prague in 2012, he released his fisrt album Matizes. This collection of his own songs was recorded with Rodrigo Zago and Fabricio Signorelli between 2000 and 2010 in Rio de Janeiro and it presents 10 years of musical work inspired by Brazilian Fusion of the 1970s (João Donato, Egberto Gismonti, Hermeto Pascoal, Azymuth, Airto Moreira, Manfredo Fest, Sérgio Mendes). In 2016, he recorded his second independent album AnniMa. The album was released in Rock Café during the festival Lusófona in cooperation with Instituto Camões in Prague. Currently, AnniMa lives in Prague where he regularly performs Brazilian Fusion and work s on his 3rd album Rainy Days.
